The
tattoo was used by any times, there is no population which knows this
practice (the first tracks going back up at about 2000 years before
J.C.). The
tattoo had different meanings according to peoples and times. He could
serve as ornaments, as protection against ghosts, serve to identify the
status or the row in a group.

The technique did not evolve during time. The tattoo consists in inserting under the skin of colored substances. The most important problem being not to drill the
dermis.
The used material is a sharp instrument, a needle made golden,
ivory, tooth, metals, steel.
Pigments evolved. They arose from smoke,
resin, ash. At present they arise from the industry what reassures as for the transmission of
disease. |

Nowadays, the tattooers use an electric machine discovered by Samuel Reilly in 1891. It is the liking électro, the spring and the contact breaker that entail a needle or a bundle of needles, introduced into a muff prolonged by a buzzard of guides.
The ink lies in the buzzard where it rises by capillarity when the tattooer plunges it into the ink jar. |

Attention
: Tattooers exercise their talents freely, without any shape of rule. In
the profession, they evoke the necessity of defining a charter of
hygiene. If the majority of official tattooers have a chain of
decontamination and adequate sterilization, the world of the tattoo
sometimes shelters doubtful practices from the point of view of the
hygiene. Regrettably people are more interested in the profit than the
artistic and hygienic aspect of the tattoo!
